Personal History: (
Must be very well developed and at least 5-6 paragraphs long) Jason Matthew Davis was born on February 2, 1998 to Karen and Jordan Davis. He lived in a loving and caring home and right away his parents noticed Jason’s intelligence. He was placed in high qualified schools and programs. But his favorite thing to do was take things apart, say his alarm clock or the remote control, and look at all the gadgets that made it up. Because this was before he could actually put it back together correctly, his dad found himself buying several alarm clocks and T.V. remotes.
When Matthew was seven, April 16, 2005 to be exact, tragedy struck in the form of a car crash. Karen and Jordan were driving back from a University gathering, they were both professors at University of Washington, and their small Ford Escape was hit dead on by a drunk driver in a Dodge Dually truck driving on the wrong side of the road. Jason was at home with the babysitter at the time; secretly pulling apart his new wrist watch when he was supposed to be asleep, when he heard the doorbell ring. He peeked out his bedroom door to listen for what was going on, and that’s when he heard Milly, his high school babysitter, take a sharp intake of breath. He quickly scampered down the long hallway and right to Milly’s side. There was a police officer at the door and Milly was in tears.
“Son, we have something to tell you; it’s not easy,” the man said.
That night Jason learned that in the crash his parents were killed instantly but the man behind the wheel of the truck was in the ICU, expected to be okay. He would later face criminal charges for the Davis’ death but this event left Jason with no family to take care of him.
That month marked the beginning of Jason’s four years in foster care. In those years he went through six different homes throughout Washington State. It wasn’t because he was bad, not exactly, he just didn’t fit in with the other foster children. He was the center of the cruelest jokes and pranks not only by the kids in the foster homes, but also by the kids at his public schools. They didn’t like a kid who could work problems in his head, or who could recite and understand Newton’s Laws of Physics. The foster parents also got tired of always having to replace various mechanical devices because Jason would always break them open to look at the mechanics of them.
Eventually, in May 2009, a family that worked with Mr. and Mrs. Davis was finally approved to adopt Jason, whom by then had started to go by his mother’s nickname for him, Miles. He had known this family, Debbie and Steven Carnes and their two older sons Aiden and Aaron, for all of his life. Moving in and living with them felt more natural to him than any foster home he’d been in the whole previous four years before.
Aiden was eight years older than Miles (19) and Aaron was four years older (15) at the time of the adoption, but all three “brothers” got along splendidly. The Carnes placed Miles back into specialized advanced schools, also recognizing his high intelligence. He entered high school at 14, like most normal teens, but he graduated at 16, much earlier than teens do. He was ready for college that fall, 2014, but Debbie and Steven were afraid of how he would adjust to it at his age, so they kept him back for a semester.
During that fall, he traveled Europe with Aiden, and in preparation for the trip he learned Spanish, French, German, and Italian. He wanted to learn more such as, Portuguese, Swedish, Greek, and Russian, but Aiden finally stopped him with a comment saying, “Part of the adventure is not knowing the language and wondering if they’re sending you to a restaurant, or off a cliff.” Miles laughed and finally put down his books for the remainder of the trip and just “winged it.”
They returned home just in time for Miles to start college in the Spring of 2015. He doubled majored in Mechanical Engineering and Electrical Engineering and was finding college to be very accepting. During his summer session his first year, he took an archery class, just for fun, and on his first day he met and conversed with an energetic red head by the name of Michelle Higgins.
During that entire summer session the two laughed and talked together and ate lunch after their class. He learned that Michelle was going into medicine, preferable surgery, and she learned that even though he was only 17, she was becoming smitten with him. Fall started, and they had very different classes, but they kept in touch and held weekly study gatherings. Even with their noses stuck in different subject books, they still found time for a random joke or two.
On Miles’ eighteenth birthday, Michelle and his new college friends threw him a big surprise party at Michelle’s campus apartment. On that night, she gave him his first real kiss, and since then they were a couple. Michelle was once asked by one of their friends what had taken her so long, to which she replied, “I had to wait till the boy was legal.”
Things were finally looking up for Miles. That is until his last semester, Spring 2017. The Ans Virus started spreading over the country and the teachers on campus started “disappearing” from their classes. Before the semester was half way over, the college shut down and sent everyone home. Michelle had nowhere to go, having been kicked out of her apartment and also being disconnected from her father since the age of 15. She’d managed on her own since, but the campus didn’t give any warning before giving her the boot, so she didn’t have any places lined up. Miles offered her to come home with him, and she gratefully agreed.
His parents welcomed her with open arms; they had heard so much about her. But the family’s happiness was short lived. The virus soon reached the Carnes household, taking with it Debbie’s, Steven’s and Aiden’s life all within a week. Miles, stricken with so much grief, locked himself in his room and Michelle and Aaron couldn’t get him out. Frustrated and dealing with his own pain, Aaron left the house, never returning. Michelle spent night and day by Miles’ door, pleading with him to come out. After three days he finally emerged and apologized for his childish actions.
“It’s only us now. Let’s make the most of it,” he told her. Together they roamed the state, but before they left Seattle, they came across a broken down tattoo parlor that had a man who was still giving tattoos out, but the old fashioned way, because there was no electricity in the city. Michelle and Miles decided to give it shot, and they both got a red heart on the inside of their left wrist, and during the process they exchanged “vow” type words as a way to show that they were “married” to each other.
They journeyed through Washington, parts of Idaho, and through Montana into Wyoming. When they were settled in one night, somewhere between towns, Miles noticed that Michelle seemed to be lagging in energy and had been for a few days.
When he asked her how she was feeling, she started crying. “Miles, I should’ve told you before this. I’m so sorry. The summer after your birthday, when we first made us official, I found out I had breast cancer.” She cried more and Miles held back his own tears as she continued to tell him that she had gotten treatment and it went into remission, but now it has seemingly returned, and with no medicine to counter it, it feels even worse.
Miles was in shock, but he was determined not to see it in a bad light, at least not yet. “Don’t worry. Whatever time we’ve got left, we’ll be together and we’ll make the best of it. I promise you. What do you say? Promise?”
She dried her tears and a couple of days later they were on their way again. They came across a town called Sundance and Miles could tell that this was their last stop. Michelle was getting weaker by the day, even though she denied it. The two stayed in the forest, away from the people of the town, Miles only occasionally venturing in to trade for food and other supplies, but about four days later the man he had met on his trading, Bear, asked him and Michelle to join the Twin Feathers and build a tree house in their territory. Miles and Bear had the house built in three days, while Michelle lay under a shady tree watching them dazedly. It was about two months later that she passed.
During her final days, Miles found himself confiding to Bear everything from his life and all of his feelings, which helped to make things easier the morning she finally faded. They buried her together and Bear graciously performed a traditional Cheyenne burial ceremony. Now he’s living with the Twin Feathers serving as an engineer/mechanic.
Birth Location: Seattle, Washington
Blood Family: Karen Davis (deceased-Ans virus)
Jordan Davis (deceased-Ans virus)
What tribe do they belong to if any?: Twin Feathers
How long have they been with that tribe?: One year
Personal Strengths: He has mastered his love for tinkering with mechanical things while he was in college. While traveling with Michelle he collected several tools and gadgets and he can build or put together just about anything if he has the just right things for it. I.E. a solar powered car that ran until scavengers came and took it apart, or just a working watch with rechargeable batteries, using the sun or wind to recharge them. Also, he is an excellent shot with a bow and arrow (he’s very precise and that class helped out a lot)
Personal Weaknesses: Physically, he is not very strong and even when he tries to keep smiling, he has his dark corners in his mind. He has also reverted back to his social awkwardness.
Personal Skills and Training: He speaks fluent French, Spanish, German, and Italian. He is of course an expert with mechanic and electrical things, and he is a perfect shot every time with a bow and arrow.
Job that they have in the tribe or whatever they do to keep themselves alive if they’re alone: Mechanic/Electrician/Engineer/Inventor

Sample Third Person Post of the Character: (Must be at least three paragraphs long. One paragraph is 3-4 sentences long.) Miles didn’t want to wake up. But the newly rebuilt alarm clock obviously didn’t agree with him as it rang from across the room. Slowly and painfully he sat up and trudged the five feet to the other side of the room to turn off the alarm.
9:00 am already, and another day closer. He tiredly dressed in his loose slacks and button up collared shirt, a habit he never got out of since he was a kid.
She had dared him to wear jeans once, and he did, on her birthday one summer, way back. She wore a bright blue dress that brought out her bright blue eyes which were shining even more because of her complexion being paled by shock of seeing him in jeans. Or at least back then he assumed it was from shock. He hadn’t known it was from the hour of chemo-therapy that morning or the previous mornings before that.
Miles had found himself asking several times over the past year, “How could I have not known she was sick?” To which Bear one day replied, “She didn’t want you to.”
Short, sweet, simple.
Miles dealt so much in the complex that sometimes simple was just too difficult to comprehend.
He ran his fingers through his brownish blonde hair, the only kind of “combing” he’d do to it for the rest of the day, and considered going back to bed until noon. But Miles knew that wouldn’t work. Bear would be over soon. The two were going on their weekly trip to the library. The younger, much taller man had offered to share this trip with Miles a few weeks after the burial as a way to help get him out of the tree house, and this trip had been much anticipated by Miles since the war had ended, Libby was finally safely home, and things were looking a bit safer to go out now.
Miles crept out of the small bedroom, pausing to glance at the closed door next to it. Almost a whole year and he still couldn’t bring himself to go into their room.
Her things were still in there.
Her smell.
Those memories. Sighing, Miles walked into the main room and wondered if he wanted breakfast or not. He also wondered if they should invite Kestral to go with them that day. Miles often wondered this and had become curious as to what kind of books she read.
She loved to read romance novels. Miles had caught her reading them often when they were supposed to be studying. “You’re going into medicine, life and death, how can you read those fantasiful things?” he asked her once. “It’s good to get away from reality every once in a while,” she’d answer.
Out of the whole year Miles had been in Sundance he had only read five of those kinds of novels. But he knew the basic plotline. Guy and girl meet; guy and girl fall in love; guy and girl have an argument; guy wins girl back; both live happily ever after. But not once in any of those books had girl become sick with an incurable disease and died at the end, leaving the guy with a big gaping hole in his heart.
Miles fought back those tears again and plastered on his usual smile as he felt the slight tug of the rope ladder on the tree house. Bear was coming up.
Just in time.
